2018 Miners Season Underway!

The 2018 edition of the Madisonville Miners is in town, and the season is underway! While the team (and the website) is off to a bumpy start, we look forward to getting the ship righted and having an exciting 2018 season!

Miners Arrive Memorial Day

The team arrived in Madisonville on Memorial Day and met for their first practice at Elmer Kelley Stadium. The Spring rains cut practice short, but also gave us time to pass out uniforms and take team and individual player photos.

After the photos, we gathered in the City Park Clubhouse for dinner with the team, parents, host families, and supporters. The dinner is always a great opportunity to meet the players in a relaxed and fun setting, and this year didn’t disappoint.

Each coach and player introduced himself, told the crowd where he played college ball and his hometown, and also a fun fact about himself. The food and fellowship were fantastic.

First Week of Games

After a rainout washed away the scheduled season opener in Paducah, the Miners got the season started Friday night, June 1, at Elmer Kelley Stadium against the Hoptown Hoppers. The visiting Hoppers took the matchup 7-3.

The same two teams hooked up the following night in Hopkinsville and finished nine innings knotted at 1-1. Hopkinsville ended up winning 2-1 in the bottom of the 12th inning on a walkoff RBI single.

Sunday night, May 3, the Miners traveled to Owensboro for their first visit with the RiverDawgs. Unfortunately for the Miners, the Dawgs chewed us up pretty well, winning 9-1.

The prior rainout with Paducah was rescheduled for Monday night, May 4, at Brooks Stadium. The Chiefs got the better of us, scratching out a 8-3 win.

The road won’t get any easier for the Miners, as they’re only four days into ten straight days of ballgames. You can find our entire schedule on the Schedule tab at the top of the page.

Miscellaneous Notes

  • As for listening to road games, we are dependent on the host team to provide a live audio stream. Some do better than others, but for the most part the streams are reliable.
