Bombers down Miners Tuesday Night

(From Dubois County) The league-leading Dubois County Bombers rolled to their seventh consecutive victory last night with a 7-4 win over the second-place Madisonville Miners.  Although Dubois County didn’t always make the most of their opportunities, they did have the most opportunities on this night, and capitalized on just enough of them.

Daniel Johnson collected his first of three singles in the home first.  He later came around to score on a bases-loaded walk to Mark Giesler.  Johnson then singled in Devyn Newberry in the second, making the score 2-0 in favor of Dubois County.

Jacob Csizmadia manufactured a Miners score in the top of the third.  He singled, stole second, advanced to third on an infield popup, and raced home on a wild pitch by Bombers starter Lucas Barnett.

Dubois County returned the scoreboard to a 3-run advantage with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning.

Although the Bombers scored in each of the first three innings, they could have had a much larger margin.  Miners starter Jesse Ellefson pitched out of three big jams, stranding 7 Dubois County baserunners in the first three frames.

The Bombers would leave two more on the bags in the fifth before breaking through with a 3-run sixth.  Drake McNamara and Thomas Rea came up with the clutch hits.

Madisonville got an unearned run in the seventh to cut the lead to 6-2.  They added two more in the eighth off of Dubois County reliever Jay Prior.  Tyler Greiner drove in Cory Finkler.  When Logan Hopple scored on a wild pitch, it was 6-4.

Drake McNamara led off the bottom of the eighth by lining a shot over the head of the Miners center fielder.  He scored on a pinch-hit single by Morgan DePew, making the score 7-4 going to the bottom of the ninth.

Fresh off of earning his first save of the year on Monday, Nicholas Scheller came out of the bullpen to toss a 1-2-3 ninth inning, sealing the Bombers seventh consecutive victory.  It was the only inning all night where no Miners reached base.

Lucas Barnett gets the win to square his record at 1-1.  Ellefson takes the loss.  He is also 1-1 on the season. Scheller notches his second save.

Johnson went 3-for-5.  He is now 8-for-14 in since joining the Bombers three games ago.  McNamara added a single and a double.

905 fans witnessed the Dubois County squad extend their league lead to 3 ½ games over the Miners and Fulton Railroaders.

The 11-4 Bombers head to Hopkinsville tomorrow night to take on the 4-7 Hoppers.  Madisonville will be hosting Owensboro (5-9).  Box Scores Click Here.
