Hoppers Top Miners 6-2 At Elmer Kelley

The Hoptown Hoppers continued their stellar play Monday night with a 6-2 victory over the Miners at Elmer Kelley Stadium in Madisonville. The win was the third straight for first place Hoptown (21-2), while the loss was the second straight for the third place Miners (11-9).

Hopper hurler Casey Queener pitched seven innings of two-hit baseball to get the Win, and at the plate right-fielder Grant Robbins (2-for4) drove in all six Hopper runs.

All of their eight hits and six runs came from the top half of the Hopper batting order, with Chase Schmittou, Matt Crowder, Andrew Gross, and Grant Robbins collecting two hits a piece. Allonte Wingate and Schmittou scored one run each, with Crowder and Gross scoring two each.

Jeff Lindgren started for Madisonville on the mound and scattered six hits over 6.33 innings but also allowed six runs (four earned) before giving way to Justin Whitley on the top of the seventh. Whitley finished on the mound, pitching 2.66 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits, one walk, and striking out five Hoppers. Lindgren took the Loss.

Logan Jarvis led Madisonville offensively, collecting two of the Miners’ three hits on the night, scoring one run, and driving in one run. Daniel Jackson drove in the other Madisonville run.
