Madisonville Miners Defeated By Hoptown Hoppers

Madisonville Miners could not keep up with Hoptown Hoppers 10-5 on Thursday at Hopkinsville High School.

A solo home run to left field by Ryan Mesa on the seventh pitch of the at-bat put Madisonville Miners on the board in the top of the first.

Madisonville Miners added one run in the second. Hoptown Hoppers committed an error, making the score 2-0.

Hoptown Hoppers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a single by Alex Maguire, and a fielder’s choice by Kade Wall.

A solo home run to left field by Broc Mattox gave Madisonville Miners the lead, 3-2, in the top of the sixth.

Zach Hampton singled down the right field line, which helped Hoptown Hoppers tie the game at three in the bottom of the sixth.

A double by Elijah Jordan gave Madisonville Miners the lead, 5-3, in the top of the seventh.

Hoptown Hoppers flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the seventh, scoring six runs on two hits to take the lead, 9-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Hampton on the sixth pitch of the at-bat that drove in two.

Mason Wolf stepped on the mound first for Madisonville Miners. The pitcher surrendered four hits and two runs over four and one-third innings, striking out three and walking one. Hudson Hamilton started the game for Hoptown Hoppers. The starter gave up six hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking none.

Madisonville Miners collected nine hits in the game. Jordan drove the middle of the lineup, leading Madisonville Miners with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Isaiah Smith went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Madisonville Miners in hits. Mesa collected two hits for Madisonville Miners in four at bats. Madisonville Miners turned one double play in the game.

Hoptown Hoppers accumulated 10 hits in the game. Hampton went 4-for-5 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Easton Beaty collected two hits for Hoptown Hoppers in four at bats. Hoptown Hoppers had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Reed Hayes and Nick Johnson led the team with two free passes each. Wall stole five bases. Hoptown Hoppers stole seven bases in the game. Hoptown Hoppers turned two double plays in the game.
