Miners Lose To Oilers On Monday Night

(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers won their home opener Monday night against the visiting Madisonville Miners. The final score was 3 to 1 in favor of the home team. The Oilers opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Bryce Windham led off the home half with a walk and Seth Woodard followed with the same. Both runners were sacrificed ahead one base. Sam Medina delivered a 2-RBI double, scoring both Windham and Woodard — but Medina was tagged out turning too far toward third base. After one inning the Oilers led 2-0.

Owensboro added one more run in the bottom of the 5th inning. Ben Haefner led off with a double. The runner was sacrificed over to third base. Haefner scored on a sharp RBI ground out by Joe Silva to shortstop. At the end of five complete Owensboro led 3-0.

The Miners rallied for their only run in the top of the 6th inning. Joe Kennedy walked leading off, then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Kennedy scored on a RBI single that Austin Sistrunk flared into short center field. Going into the bottom of the 6th inning, the home team was up 3-1. That score held to become final.

Pitching stood out all game long. Owensboro starter Mac Barnes collected the win, pitching 5+ innings of fast-paced baseball. He was followed by Jordan McKinney and Tyler Solomon, who both set up Ryan Hundley for the save in the top of the 9th inning. Madisonville starter Garret Sendelbach took the loss, though the trio of Miners pitchers threw well.
