Miners Fall To Flash 9-5 At Elmer Kelley

The Henderson Flash broke out the long ball on their first visit to Elmer Kelley and defeated the Miners 9-5 on Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped Miners to 14-14 on the season while Henderson moved to 13-13 in the East Division of the OVL standings.

The Flash got on the board quickly when Jordan Schaffer led off the ballgame with a home run to centerfield. Paul Haupt added a grand slam in the top of the second inning, and the Miners found themselves in a 5-0 hole after two innings of play.

Madisonville battled back with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. After Logan Jarvis doubled to start the inning, Ryan Brooks and David Robins each got hit by pitches thrown by Flash starter Logan Workman to load the bases. Alex Carignan singled to drive in Jarvis and keep the bases full of Miners. After a strikeout by Sam Browning, Hayden Hollingsworth got hit by a pitch and forced in David Robins for Madisonville’s second run. Chad Hinkle drove in the third Miner run of the inning with a single.

The Miners added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI-double by Carignan, driving in Ryan Brooks.

The Flash responded in the fifth with a solo shot by Aaron Euler and two in the sixth to take an 8-4 lead into the ninth inning, where Euler hit his second solo shot of the day.

Madisonville added one run in the bottom of the ninth when Brooks scored in the middle of the Flash turning a double play.

Tyler Crouch got the start and the loss for the Miners. Jack Bellinger relieved Crouch in the fifth and finished out the game from there for the Miners. Flash starter Logan Workman gave way to reliever Jacob Tapp, who picked up the win for the Flash. Tapp pitched the final 6-1/3 innings.
