Miners Hold Off Bombers At Elmer Kelley

The Madisonville Miners defeated the Dubois County Bombers in Madisonville on Friday night by the score of 10-9. The win was Madisonville’s (1-4) first of the season, while Dubois County (4-3) had a four-game winning streak snapped.

The Bombers jumped ahead of the Miners early when leadoff hitter Noah Sadler homered off of Madisonville starter Yancey Pritchett in the top of the 1st inning. The Miners answered in the bottom of the 1st when Connor Mosss singled and later scored on an RBI-ground out by Brooks Benson.

The score remained tied 1-1 until the Bombers scored three runs in the top of the 4th. Devyn Newberry singled, driving in Alex Ralph and Thomas Rea. Drake McNamara followed with a single, driving in Noah Sadler. Madisonville responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning when JD Minor singled and drove in Matt Walsh and Andrew Tanous.

Dubois County scored two more runs in the 5th inning and extended the lead to 6-3. Mark Giesler and Alex Ralph both walked with one out. Cody Krumlauf then doubled, scoring Giesler. Ralph scored a batter later when Thomas Rea grounded out.

The Miners bounced back with two runs in their half of the 5th and cut the lead to 6-5. Brooks Benson grounded out but picked up an RBI as Connor Moss scored. Matt Walsh then singled one batter later, driving in Nolan Ramsey.

The Bombers continued the scoring barrage in the 6th, scoring one run and making the lead 7-5. Bomber Devyn Newberry led off the inning with a bunt single, stole second base, and scored when Morgan DePew grounded into a double play.

Madisonville answered the Bombers with three runs of their own in the bottom of the 6th, taking the lead for the first time in the ballgame 8-7. Nolan Ramsey cracked a two-out two-RBI double, driving in Minor and Moss. Brooks Benson then tripled, driving in Ramsey.

The scoring stopped until Madisonville played two runs on the bottomg of the 8th and extended to the lead to 10-7. JD Minor led off the inning with a double, and Addison Rospert followed by drawing a walk. After a sacrfice bunt by Connor Moss moved the runners to second and third, the Bombers intentionally walked Nolan Ramsey to load the bases. Brooks Benson then singled, driving in Minor and Rospert. A ground out by Cory Finkler ended the inning.

The Bombers made things interesting in the top of the 9th, scoring twice to make the final score 10-9. Morgan DePew reached and advanced to second on an error. After a fly ball from Giesler, pinch hitter Nick Gobert walked. The runners advanced to second and third on a Madisonville balk, and Cody Krumlauf walked to load the bases with only one out. Jacob Snodgrass pinch hit and picked up an RBI when he drew a walk, scoring DePew. Noah Sadler grounded into a fielder’s choice, scoring Gobert. The Miners quelled the rally when Newberry grounded to end the ballgame.

Nicholas Purpera picked up the Win for the Miners, with starter Yancey Pritchett getting a no decision. Mathias Brewers got the Save. Bomber starter Zachary Aring took the Loss.

Madisonville gets back in action on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader in Owensboro (the first game starts at 5pm Central), while Dubois County travels to Hopkinsville to take on the Hoppers (game time 7pm Central).
