Monday Night: Miners Hold Off Hoppers 6-5

The Miners jumped to an early 6-1 lead and held off the Hoppers down the stretch to pick up the 6-5 win at Elmer Kelley on Monday night.

Madisonville scored early, plating two runs in the bottom of the first.  Hoptown answered in the top of the third with one run, but the Miners scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead out to 6-1.  The Hoppers chipped away at the lead, scoring three in the top of the sixth and one more in the top of the ninth before the Miners finally closed out the victory.

The Miners scored six runs on eight hits and one Hopper error, while the Hoppers scored five runs on seven hits and four Madisonville errors.

JA Harville picked up the Win for the Miners, who moved to 13-10 on the season and have won three straight.  Drew Mullinax earned a Save.  Hopper starter Brady Walsh pitched all the way and took the Loss.  The loss dropped the Hoppers to 7-15 for the year.

Shane Connahan led the Miners at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.  His big blow was a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.  Nolan Ramsey went 2-for3 with two RBI and one run scored, and Connor Moss went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

The Hoppers were paced by John Davis, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored.

Madisonville travels to Fulton (15-9) on Tuesday night, and the Hoppers get the night off.  The Owensboro Oilers (6-14) and Dubois County Bombers (15-8) will play a doubleheader in Owensboro.
