The visiting Owensboro Oilers defeated the Miners 9-4 at Elmer Kelley Stadium on Tuesday night. A complete Box Score is available HERE.
The Oilers scored eight runs in the first inning and took immediate control of the ballgame. After a fly ball out began the ballgame, seven consecutive Owensboro batters reached base and scored runs in the inning. The Oilers sent fourteen batters to the plate in the inning, and ended up with eight runs on five hits, five walks, one error, and three runners left on base.
The Oilers added another run in the top of the second, making the score 9-0 as the game headed to the home half of the inning. The Miners held the Oilers scoreless from there out.
Madisonville picked up on run in the second, with EJ Watson singling to drive in Cory Finkler. The score remained 9-1 until the fifth inning, when Madisonville scored two more runs on two hits and left the bases loaded. Madisonville added one more run in the bottom of the eighth to end the scoring for the ballgame.
Owensboro starter Damon Davis recorded the Win, and Madisonville starter Jesse Ellefson took the Loss.
Madisonville (8-9) dropped into third place in the OVL standings, four games behind first place Dubois County (13-6). Owensboro (6-10) pulled to within five-1/2 games of the Bombers. Both teams are back in action on Wednesday night. Owensboro hosts Fulton (10-8) and Madisonville hosts Hoptown (7-11).
