Bellinger Pitches Gem in 7-1 Win Over Chiefs

Starting pitcher Jack Bellinger shut down the Paducah Chiefs for eight-plus innings as the Miners cruised to 7-1 victory Monday night at Elmer Kelley Stadium. Bellinger earned the Win and pitched 8.67 innings, allowing just one unearned run on four hits, two walks, and nine strikeouts.

The Miners offense got started early, scoring two runs in the bottom the first inning and giving Bellinger all of the cushion he needed. The Miners put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning and added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Chad Hinkle hit a solo home run, Logan Jarvis drove in two runs, and Bradley Hull went 2-for-3 and scored two runs to lead the Miners at the plate. The Miners banged out twelve total hits, with every Miner batter knocking at least one base hit on the night.

OVL Standings

The win moved the Miners (18-21) into sole possession of second place in the OVL West standings with only Tuesday night’s game against the Hoppers remaining in the regular season. With the loss, the Chiefs (17-21) dropped 1/2-game behind the Miners and into third place in the West, tied with the Fulton Railroaders (17-21).

With the bottom three teams in the division within 1/2-game of each other, the playoff picture and seeding won’t be finalized until all remaining regular season games are played.
