Miners Defeat Oilers 5-4; Updated Stats

Miners 5, Oilers 4 Tuesday Night

The Miners defeated the Oilers 5-4 at Elmer Kelley Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Oilers got the scoring going in the top of the second inning when Seth Woodard singled off Madisonville starter Brandon Dusenberry to drive in Mitch Wilson.

Madisonville tied the game at 1-1 in bottom half of the inning on an RBI fielder’s choice by Brandt Nowaskie, driving in Austin Sistrunk.

Owensboro scored two runs in the top of the third inning to retake the lead 3-1. After Tanner Kerher reached on a force out and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sam Medina, Nick Lugo doubled and drove in Kerher. Mitch Wilson followed with an RBI single, scoring Lugo.

The Miners answered again in the bottom of the frame, roughing up Oiler starter Mac Barnes with four runs on four hits and two Oiler errors. After Collin Dupree started off the inning by reaching on an error, Tom Prospero tripled to left, scoring Dupree. Nolan Ramsey followed with a single, scoring Prospero. After a single by Chase Hensley moved Ramsey to second, Logan Jarvis doubled, with the Oilers throwing out Ramsey at the plate. Austin Sistrunk hit a sacrifice fly to score Hensley, and Jarvis scored on an error on the play.

The score remained 5-3 until the top of the sixth, when Owensboro scored one run on an RBI double by Ben Haefner, driving in Seth Woodard. Both teams went scoreless from there for the final margin.

Brandon Dusenberry (3-1) picked up his third win of the season, pitching seven complete innings and allowing four runs (all earned) on nine hits, one walk, and five strike outs. Kyle Klotz pitched two perfect innings to close out the game and grab his first save of the season. Starter Mac Barnes took the loss for the Oilers.

Miners Host Muhlenberg County Wednesday

The home stand continues for Madisonville on Wednesday night when the Stallions from Muhlenberg County visit Elmer Kelley. Game time is 7pm Central.
