Miners Rally to Down Bombers in 10 Innings
(From Dubois County) Nine hundred sixty nine baseball fans enjoyed the antics of the Zooperstars at Huntingburg’s League Stadium on Friday night. They also witnesses the Bombers stake themselves to a 6-1 lead after seven innings. Then the Zooperstars act was over and the Bomber lead disappeared. The Miners roared from behind to snare a 9-7 victory in 10 innings.
Madisonville scored five times in the eighth inning to tie the game at six-all. Designated hitter Nolan Ramsey led off the inning with a home run to right field. Three more hits and three errors contributed to the rally. Josh Finerty’s two-run double was the other big blast of the frame.
In the 10th, Madisonville’s Genesis Hillard doubled in one run. Another followed on a Bomber error. Tom Prospero’s sacrifice fly accounted for the final run, giving the Miners a 9-6 advantage.
But Dubois County did not give up easily. A leadoff walk to Mark Geisler was followed by a pair of singles by Ben Balgaard and Miles Hardy. Thus, the bases were loaded with nobody out. But a sacrifice fly off the bat of Buddy Johnson was as much as the Bombers were able to add to the threat.
Ramsey added a ninth-inning double to his earlier home run. Finerty and Hillard both had a pair of hits for the Miners.
The Dubois County attack was led by catcher Trey Fulton went 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Outfielder Connor Echols added three base hits, and Logan Brown and Zach Barnhart contributed two hits apiece.
Dubois County starting pitcher Renton Poole pitched six innings, limiting the Miners to two hits while striking out nine. However, the Dubois County relievers were not as successful against the potent Madisonville lineup.
Miners’ reliever Chase Hensley gets credit for the victory, despite surrendering four hits and a walk in two innings of work. Derek Flaugher pitched the 10th for the Bombers and is charged with the loss. See Chase Hensley end the game with a strikeout HERE (VIDEO).
The loss is just the third of the season for the Bombers in 12 games. They remain in second place, but dropped to 2 ½ games behind league-leading Hopkinsville. Madisonville improves to 7-5. They remain in fourth place in the OVL standings, 4 ½ games off the pace.
The Bombers return to League Stadium to host the Fulton Railroaders tonight. The Miners are off until Sunday.
