Miners Split Doubleheader in Hoptown

Game One – Miners 6, Hoppers 0 (7 innings)

From Hopkinsville. In game one of the doubleheader the Miners were led by their starting pitcher Brandon Dusenberry (6-1) who threw a complete game, 7-inning shutout against the Hoppers allowing only two hits and striking out four. Hoppers starter Tyler Walton (3-1) would pick up the loss after tossing five innings, allowing three runs on five hits.

The Miners would get on the board in the top of the 2nd following three one-out hits and a RBI ground out giving them an early 2-0 lead. They would strike again in the 4th after a Logan Jarvis hit a solo home run to left center field.

Madisonville would bring eight batters to the plate in the top of the 6th and ultimately score three more runs after two hit by pitches and a walk were driven in by a RBI ground out and a 2 RBI single by catcher Daniel Jackson.

Game Two – Hoppers 5, Miners 4 (7 innings)

From Hopkinsville. In game two, the Hoppers got on the board early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. After a one out walk put Chris Smutny on first, Andrew Gross hit a home run to right-center field, his 17th home run of the season.

The second inning would plate 2 more runs for the Hoppers. With 2 outs, Brian Chilton walked and was advanced to 2nd after a wild pitch and to 3rd on an infield single by Cooper Weatherly. Weatherly would then steal 2nd on the next pitch allowing Chilton to score on the throw. Matt Crowder would then score Weatherly on a line drive single to left field.

Madisonville responded with 2 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. With one out, Joe Kennedy reached first safely on a single and advanced to 2nd base on a wild pitch. Kennedy was then driven home by Austin Sistrunk with a deep double to right center field. Sistrunk advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch and then was driven home by Genesis Hillard on an infield ground out.

The Hoppers added to their lead in the 5th inning after Gross reached 1st on an infield single. Chase Schmittou advanced him to 3rd on a single to right field, but was caught in a run down between 1st and 2nd. Gross then scored on a safety squeeze by Hunter Holland.

The Miners led off the 6th inning with a single and a walk. Josh Finerty then advanced them on a sacrifice bunt. Kennedy then drove in one run on an infield ground ball that was handled poorly, resulting in an error that scored an additional run for the Miners.
